First Class Comic Review Magazine Covers

Hi Everyone,

Today's blog post will showcase some of the covers we used for a fanzine we once did called First Class Comic Review. I wrote this magazine alongside Lily and a few of my friends from school and it sold at a few local comic shops. We had a great time writing all the columns and conducting various interviews will lovely comic book creators listed below;

#1 - Fred Van Lente.
#2 - Todd Dezago and Paul Tobin.
#3 - Eric Shanower.
#4 - Chris Giarrusso and Mike Deodato Junior.
#5 - Colleen Coover and Sean McKeever.
#6 - Andy Runton, Simon and Terri Reed.
#7 - David Hine, Jeff Parker, Terry Beatty, Adi Granov and Charlie Adlard.
#8 - Joanna Zhou and Todd Dezago on meeting Stan Lee in the Marvel Offices.

Our first few issue covers featured a collage of our favourite comic book art reflecting what was inside the issue but from #4 we asked professional creators to draw the covers! It was an amazing experience and so exciting to see a completed cover. :)

FCCR #4 - A Mini Marvels Christmas by Chris Giarrusso
  • This is my favourite piece of Christmas related comic book art. We asked Chris to feature Black Cat, Spidey, Jean Grey, Daredevil and Man-Thing but he kindly added so many more characters and the piece just looks amazing! We also love G-Man, Chris' creator owned character, who is topping the tree off with a star.

FCCR #5 - Harley Quinn and Joker by Colleen Coover
  • This fantastic art was produced digitally.

FCCR #7 - Batman Beyond by Terry Beatty
  • Terry Beatty was really lovely to interview and signed off every email with "bats wishes!"

FCCR #8 - Spider-Man by Jack McGinnes.
  • This was our special Stan Lee issue which we gave to him at London Super Comic Convention, 2012. Stan's agent liked it so much he gave us the chance to interview Stan Lee himself which was fantastic!

FCCR #9 - Black Widow by Simon Bisley
  • Unfortunately we stopped making the magazine just before we could use this cover but we still have the original sketch at home.

If you are interested in reading any of the FCCR back issues just leave a comment and I will see what I can do!

Thanks for reading,
Ellie x
